TOSAP®

TOSAP is a proprietary formulation technology capable of creating microspheres and nanospheres for drug delivery. The spheres created by TOSAP may be delivered by various routes of administration including inhalation, nasal, oral, subcutaneous, and intravenous. The process is robust, flexible, requires no specialized equipment, and scales linearly from sub-milligram to multi-kilogram quantities. The TOSAP platform has been demonstrated to be applicable to all classes of drugs tested, including proteins, peptides, antibodies, viruses, DNA/RNA, and small molecules (both soluble and insoluble).  Spheres may contain up to ~95% API and may range in size from <.2µm to 10µm, while maintaining a narrow size distribution. They have been shown to possess excellent dispersivity and aerodynamic characteristics. NexBio offers the TOSAP technology to third parties for the formulation of their compounds.

TOSAP® Technological Advantages

Current microsphere manufacturing is typically complex, requiring significant and expensive chemical engineering equipment.  By contrast, the TOSAP technology offers an elegant and precise process based on the discovery that under proper conditions molecules may be made to self-assemble into spheres. TOSAP does not require polymers, emulsions, spray dryers, mills, or sieves.  As a result of this elegance and lack of need for expensive machinery, TOSAP provides cost-savings for commercial manufacturing, and ensures that no major capital expenditure will be required to manufacture at scale.
